“A man’s work is nothing other than a long journey to rediscover, through the detours of art, the two or three great and simple images that first took possession of his heart.” - Albert Camus

Madeleine Prendergast
Landscape Painter

One day, a voice inside me said, “The present moment is all we have ... the present moment is all.” That's why I paint landscapes. The past enters into us through landscapes, and, if we are still, transforms our present. Looking closely at the world around us is one way to render thanks to our Creator for being alive.

Scenes of great natural beauty make us feel fully human and yet in touch with something greater than ourselves. I present watercolors of landscapes that astonish me. Strong compositions and vivid colors convey the resolute and intrepid spirit of the natural world. They teach both the painter and the viewer how to see.

We watch for light sources: the full moon on a country road; a sunset on a field of corn; evergreens at night illuminated by a campfire. With paintings that capture the way light illuminates our world, we can relive the moment that takes our breath away, over and over again.
